Clogging. Buck dancing. Flat footing.

No matter what it’s called, this takes special talent.

It was old-time entertainment, at least until the White family of Boone County reintroduced it to the state and nation.

Remember Jesco White from the WNPB Public Television series Different Drummer?

And his dancing across a swinging bridge? Or the roof of a dog house while his pet slept inside?

This Dancing Outlaw documentary propelled him into the national spotlight.

Later he was featured in The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia.

Still, he never forgot his mountain roots.

He credits his late father, Donald Ray White, for teaching him.

Better known as D. Ray, he was a legendary mountain dancer.

D. Ray White

Turns out it really was a family tradition.
