It’s been a tough weather week.

Plunging temperatures and wind chills made it hard to be outside.

But Joey Herron persisted, and took beautiful photos of our feathered friends.

Call it early-bird shots, or maybe first-of-the-year birds.

Turns out winter doesn’t seem to bother many species, and they were out despite frigid conditions.

Cardinals, blue jays and mallards.

But that’s only the beginning of his early 2018 birding photograph list.

Fortunately the bad weather also wasn’t enough to keep this talented artist home.

And aren’t we glad?
